Miles for Grandpa

Hello blog readers!!

As some of you may know, things in my world were recently flipped upside down when my grandpa, who is my favorite person in the world, was diagnosed with acute myeloblastic leukemia. I'm giving him as much love and support as my little heart can, but I feel the need to do more. So, I have joined the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, and will be running the 2010 San Diego marathon in June.

Make no mistake - I am scared shitless. I'm also fairly certain I'll be the first person to sob the entire 26.2. But, my grandpa is my inspiration, and that alone will carry me to the finish. I'll be spending the upcoming months running hundreds of miles, fundraising my ass off, and (apparently) blogging about it for my supporters to follow me along this journey.

Tomorrow morning is the first group training session in the park. It's supposed to be 20 degrees, 0 degrees with the windchill. A sane person might stay inside and sleep in - but cancer doesn't care how cold it is, and so we will run. And then I'll head up to MA for a visit with Grandpa and to cook him and Grandma some chicken tetrazzini, help them with some cleaning, and get in all the hugs I can before heading back to NY sunday night.

If you've already donated, thank you so much for your support. I'm up to $1684, already more than half way to the minimum! And to those of you who have offered your kind words of love and support, I can't tell you how much it means to me. Please know you have had a major impact, and I love you all.

Stay tuned for updates!
